St. Columban Vintage Italy T-Shirt
Columban left Ireland around 590 with twelve companions, founded monasteries across Gaul, was thrown out by a king, crossed the Alps, and founded the abbey of Bobbio in northern Italy in 614. He died there on November 23, 615. The story told of him: a bear killed one of the monks' oxen, so Columban put the bear in the yoke to finish the ploughing.
The design shows the bear and the ox at the plough above the Trebbia River, with Bobbio's humpback bridge and the abbey bell tower below. Feast day November 23.
